More photos and a second project

I attached the green circle this morning. When I was pinning it to the background fabric, I put it on the floor, and the kitties immediately jumped on it. I made sure not to pin any cats to the quilt.

And this photo is from yesterday. There was a fly in the apartment, and it drove the cats crazy because it flew around the ceiling and they couldn't get to it.

While I'm working on the main quilt, I'm also working on another project. This is going to be small, and my plan is to make a wall hanging for some decoration in my apartment. I'm working on it very gradually - just making pieces when I have the right color thread in my sewing machine, so I'm not constantly taking my thread in and out to attach the circles to the quilt.

Progress is slow

I have a quarter circle, half-circle, and full circle down. The full purple circle was hard. It didn't lay completely flat, and I tried adjusting the seams twice to make it completely flat, but I still couldn't get it to work. So it's a little bumpy. But it's hard to tell unless you're looking for it, and Big Kitty doesn't seem to think any less of it. I have a lot more to go, but I'm getting there.

First one

I was able to sew the first piece down. I decided that starting with a half-circle for the side would be easier for my first attempt. Plus, the pink thread was already in my sewing machine, and I was too lazy to try to  The edge is going to be trimmed off, so it will be straighter once I'm done.

I wanted to do more - but Big Kitty decided he wanted to take his space back. I took some Instagram photos of him. He really does match the background fabric.

Dark grey background

I finished all of my circles! So now it's time to start putting it all together. This part is a little intimidating, so I'll probably be taking this pretty slow. Here are the different colors on the dark grey background. I do think it's a better choice than white.

Speaking of dark grey, I downloaded some photos I took early on in the project, when I was cutting out the shapes. I wonder why I have a lot of grey in my apartment?

Pink?

I added a dark blue circle (seen in the right hand side of this photo). Of the fabric I have left, I have enough fabric for another dark blue circle (or two half-circles) and a pink/grey half-circle.

I'm trying to decide if I want to add the pink. I still can't get the lighting right, but here's what it kind of looks like. I don't have enough pink for it to be all pink, so I added in some grey.

I'm trying to decide if I should use it, because there will be some grey in my background. The top will mainly be white, but I don't have a piece of white fabric big enough to make the whole top out of one piece. So I'm planning on it being mostly white with a stripe of grey across the middle. This is the grey (it matches all the circles):

I'm still debating what to do...

Additions

Here is the progress I've made so far. I added the light blue, although it's tough to see with the lighting in my apartment. I need to take more photos during the day so I can get some natural light - I think that will make the colors look more like they do in person. I do have one more purple quarter-circle, but it fell behind the couch and I didn't want to wake up Little Kitty to get it, so it's staying there for the moment. I still have a few more colors to go, but I'm well over halfway done with the circles.

Big Kitty also did something new this afternoon. He likes napping on my table next to the sewing machine, but my sewing must have bothered him, because he started kicking the machine with his back legs (claws out). That's what he does when he tries to kill something. So he tried to kill my sewing machine. I tried to get video of it, but of course whenever I started recording, he would stop. Here's the best photo I got.

It's a good thing the machine is sturdy!

A few more

I've finished the green, orange, and purple circles. They're different sizes, and the scale is a little funny on the couch, so they don't look completely circular. They look better in person. I have a few more colors to go!
